After the UK government released new guidance on working safely in factories, plants and warehouses on the 11th May, Hitherbest has undertaken a thorough root-and-branch review of its working practices. As a responsible employer, we are committed to taking all practicable measures to keep our employees safe, as well as minimising the spread of this devastating virus within our local community.

We are installing additional hand wash and sanitation facilities at our Telford site and have introduced a number of initiatives to enable social distancing for those staff unable to work from home. Importantly we have engaged with our staff throughout this process, listening and responding to their concerns and suggestions.

Keeping manufacturing open for business

As a trusted supplier, we have also been acutely aware of the need to play our part in keeping the UK’s manufacturing supply chains open. To date, by working with our partners, and thanks to the efforts of our wonderful workforce, we have managed to maintain production throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

The terrible effect that COVID-19 can have on the health of those unfortunate enough to be infected is well documented. Our thoughts go out to all of those who have been affected. Also of real concern is the associated downturn in the UK economy, and the effect that this will have on individuals least able to shoulder the burden. This is one of the reasons why the Hitherbest team has been working so hard to support our customers and suppliers through these difficult times. Manufacturing is vital to the Midlands economy – accounting for around 12% of all jobs (the highest proportion of any region of the country) – so it is in all our interests to keep it up and running where it is safe to do so. At Hitherbest we are proud to play our part.
