An article in today’s Shropshire Star has highlighted recent improvements to the Hitherbest powder coating line that have resulted in significant annual energy savings.

The introduction of modulating burners and a more efficient powder delivery system has led to a measurable reduction in the company’s electricity and gas consumption. This not only benefits the company and its customers, but is also good news for the environment. The savings associated with a reduction in energy use will enable Hitherbest to resist upward cost pressures and continue to offer customers excellent value for money, whilst the reduction in energy consumption represents an important step in the company’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.

The improvements to the powder coating facilities were made possible with generous assistance from the Business Energy Efficiency Programme (BEEP), the Manufacturing Growth Programme (MGP) and specialist consultants ProEnviro. Collectively they provided the funding and expertise required to carry out a strategic review of the company’s energy usage, identifying opportunities to reduce energy consumption and save carbon.

Many businesses have taken note of the importance that today’s consumers place on corporate responsibility and responded by looking at the environmental impact and sustainability of their supply chains. “Looking for ways to reduce the environmental impact of our fabrication processes is not just ethically sound, it also makes good business sense” said Hitherbest owner, Dr. Nicky Evans. “My thanks to BEEP, MGP, ProEnviro and my fellow Directors, Peter Grant and Steve Hindley, for carrying out this important work”.
